The project site is located at the existing Shaw Creek Rest Area in South Fork. The rest area will be closed to the public for the construction project. Prior to the General Contractor taking control of the site, CDOT will demolish the existing buildings and foundations on site. See Demolition Plan C002 for more information. The new rest area building will be a 2.960 gross square foot wood-framed structure with fiber cement siding, stone veneer, and sloped standing-seam metal roofs. The building will contain an entry area with two sets of entry doors, public men's, women's, family restrooms, and vending area; and staff office, break room, and restroom, with storage, mechanical and garage spaces. The garage space will be used to store a pick-up truck with plow, tractor with plow, snow-blowers, mowers, and other maintenance equipment. The flooring shall be sealed concrete slab-on-grade, with a steel trowel finish in the garage area and a polished finish in most of the rest of the spaces. The project will also include site work such as roto-milling and removing asphalt, placing new asphalt, new concrete curbs and flatwork, installing new traffic signage and pavement striping. The rest area is served by the following utilities: Electric power is provided by San Luis Valley Rural Electric Cooperative (SLVREC) currently via two separate single-phase services / meters. As part of this contract, the services will be combined and upgraded to a new 600A 3- Phase service with new transformer and conductors. A new Water well will be drilled by CDOT under a separate contract. All piping from the well, fittings, connections and wiring required for the water supply system is included in this contract.
