West Toronto Railpath Extension (Between Dundas Street West and Sudbury Street) An overview of the proposed West Toronto Rail Path Extension project is set out below. a) New multi-use path: a 1.8 km asphalt extension of the existing path, beginning near Dundas Street West and ending south of Queen Street West. b) Bridge construction: four new multi-use pedestrian bridges will be built. These bridges will be prefabricated steel truss structures with new concrete abutment/foundation structures: i B-1 rail crossing bridge. ii. B-2 Lansdowne Avenue overpass. B-3 Brock Avenue overpass. iv. B-4 Queen Street West overpass. c) The B-1 elevated path construction has approximately 250 m of path with pier structures. Piers include caps, columns, footings, and caisson elements. There are approximately 14 piers ranging from 9 m to 1 m in height. The elevated walkway's deck consists of steel girders on a concrete deck. d) Community connections: featuring a mix of hardscape/softscape and public amenities. e) Noise wall: construction of approximately 360 m of noise wall. f) Water & Stormwater Management: new water supply/drinking fountains, installation of infiltration gallery, catch basins, infiltrations chambers and subdrains. g) Civil works: construction of retaining walls and other related infrastructure. h) Lighting installation: new pathway lighting system, including 2,800 m of buried conduit. i) Clearing & tree removals: approximately 20,300 m3 of clearing and grubbing, along with an estimated 650 tree removals. j) Grading and earthworks: approximately 25,200 m3 of earth excavation and importing approximately 6,200 m3 of clean granular fill. k) Paving and landscaping: i. Approximately 5,000 m² of asphalt paving ii. Approximately 2,100 m² of riprap. iii. Approximately 1,300 m of fencing. iv. Approximately 6,200 m³ of planting soil. V. Approximately 5,500 tree, shrubs, vine, and other garden plantings 1) Street furniture: miscellaneous installation of path furniture accessories such as benches, bollards, bike rings and waste bins. m) The Contractor must either protect in place or design, coordinate, and obtain approval to relocate utility conflicts from affected third-party utility owners, such as TTC, THESL, Enbridge, Toronto Water, and Bell. n) The Work will take place both inside and outside the rail corridor. Metrolinx reserves the right to reject any or all Submissions at its sole discretion.
