Reference Number 0000289300 Question Acceptance Deadline 2025/04/17 04:00:00 PM EDT Bid Intent Deadline 2025/04/10 02:00:00 PM EDT Description This Contract is for the Rehabilitation of the Ship Channel Bridge on Cherry Street, Toronto. Structural Scope Structural work is anticipated to include, but not be limited to the following: Miscellaneous structural repairs to various steel components, structural repairs to the machine room, and milling and paving top course asphalt at the conclusion of the work. Additionally, coating of all new steel and cleaning and coating of existing steel (not previously coated in the 2024 Contract) exposed by the work undertaken as part of this Contract is included in the scope of this Contract. Cleaning and coating of existing structural steel in the machine room and various other areas on the bascule span will involve providing access and containment. Work will take place during one (1) winter navigation closure of approximately twelve weeks. Mechanical Scope The mechanical rehabilitation scope of work includes removal and disposal of existing machinery; precision surveying and alignment work using a laser tracker; fabrication and installation of new mechanical machinery including, but not limited to a custom enclosed gear reducer, shafts, bearings, couplings, open gearing, hydraulic power units, and hydraulic cylinders; and rehabilitation of existing plain bearings by installing new bronze bushings and field machining/line boring the bushings. The execution of the mechanical rehabilitation will require engineering to maintain the balance of the movable span during construction, to coordinate the mechanical work with other elements of work, to rig/lift existing and new components during removal or installation, and for the development of installation procedures to meet the technical requirements of the work. Electrical Scope The existing bridge power and control systems is of legacy technology and was installed during the early 1930's. Today the systems do not meet current code requirements. The goal of the project is to return the bridge electrical systems to a safe operating condition with a life expectancy of at least 30 years. The electrical systems to consist of new electric utility service equipment, power distribution, modern motors and drives, brakes, provision of a state-of-the-art control system and control console. The electrical contractor will be responsible for systems procurement, installation and control systems, testing, commissioning and returning the bridge to service. Ship Channel Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge, Cherry St, Toronto, ON, Canada Liquidated Damages $5,000 per calendar day (see General Information Section 1.12 on Liquidated Damages) Insurance Amounts $10,000,000.00 Bidders shall submit with their Bid Form a Bid Bond (as per the enclosed or a form of equal content acceptable to the Owner), with the Bidder named as Principal and the Owner named as Obligee, issued by a duly qualified bonding company authorized to issue surety bonds in the Province of Ontario, in an amount of not less than ten percent (10%) of the Bidder's Tender Price (calculated in Canadian funds as described in Section 5.1.K).
