Site work for a municipal facility in Norwood, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for site work for a municipal facility.

The Work includes furnishing and installing of; 500 MCM and 750 MCM 15 kV EPR cable, 4/0 neutral cable,#6 solid bonding cable, Raychem splices, fireproofing of new cables, splicing of paper-insulated lead-covered (PILC) cables, and any other miscellaneous work for the successful installation of new feeder cables in Norwood, MA. Contractor shall be responsible for furnishing and installing 3 x 1/c 500 kcmil, or 750 kcmil, copper EPR cable as per this specification. Contractor shall be responsible for furnishing and installing a 4/0 neutral with each cable pull, as described in this specification. The cable distances provided in this specification shall be used for bidding purposes. Efforts have been made to make sure these distances are as accurate as possible. However, the successful bidder is responsible for verifying all cable distances prior to ordering any cable for this project. The contractor should bring any distance discrepancies to the attention of the Norwood Municipal Light Dept (NMLD or NLD) prior to ordering the cable. 1.2 Contractor is responsible for the safe and careful removal of all old feeder cables in the manholes. Contractor shall clean and brush each conduit where cables are removed and shall install a pull string. Most of the ductbanks contain spare conduits for installing the new cables, which shall be used provided they do not restrict or inhibit any future cable pulls. Contractor is responsible for removal of all PILC cables being replaced. Conduits where feeder cables are removed may be used to install the new EPR and neutral cables if there are no spares in the ductbank. NLD would like to limit the amount of time for a feeder cutover to less than 8 hours. Pull strings, as well as stanchions and arms for supporting the cables, should be installed in all manholes. There is unit pricing included in this bid for furnishing and installing stanchions and arms if needed. Most conduits should be five inch. Contractor is responsible for making sure all conduits are clear of debris by rodding and brushing them prior to running any cables. 1.3 Contractor is responsible for furnishing and installing all underground splices, including any materials needed to complete the splice (connectors, cleaners, Raychem splice kits, etc.). Splicing shall be as follows and will be described in more detail in this specification. o 3 x 1/c 750 MCM EPR to 3 x 1/c 500 MCM EPR o 3 x 1/c 500 MCM EPR to 3 x 1/c 500 MCM EPR o 3 x 1/c 500 MCM EPR to 3/c 500 MCM PILC o 3 x 1/c 500 MCM EPR to 3 x 1/c 500 MCM PILC Contractor is also responsible for furnishing and installing a #6 solid copper tin wire from each individual splice (joint) to the bond frame inside the manhole. 1.4 The contractor is to perform all operations necessary for the properly completed contract work as shown on the drawings or as mentioned in these specifications. All work shall be completed to the satisfaction of the awarding authority and their authorized representatives. 1.5 Contractor should allow survey time of all manholes and equipment prior to installation of any cable. Any difference between specifications and actual field conditions will be addressed at this time. Norwood Municipal Light Department reserves the right to address such issues outside of this contract if it deems in the best interest of Norwood Municipal Light Department. 1.6 Prices shall include total costs to the contractor for all plant, labor, supervision, transportation, tools, supplies, materials, construction plant equipment, insurance bonds, grants, permits fees, taxes, cable tests, overhead, profit, and all other items required for the contract work. 1.7 Cable distances stated in this contract are approximations only. Correct distances and measurements are the sole responsibility of the contractor. Payments will be made based on actual quantities purchased (as needed) and installed. 1.8 Insulating material and connectors for splicing and terminations shall be furnished by the Contractor. A certified check or bid bond, with acceptable surety in favor of the Town of Norwood and equal to at least five percent (5%) of the bid, must be submitted with the bid. The successful bidder shall, within ten (10) days of notification of award furnish the Town a payment bond and labor and materials bond in an amount equal to fifty percent(50%) of the bid price. The award of the contract shall be made within 30 working days after the opening of General Bids, Saturdays, Sundays, and Legal Holidays excluded. An award will not be made to a Contractor who is not properly equipped to undertake and complete the work. The right is reserved to waive any informality and to reject any or all bids in accordance with the provisions of MGL as amended. The right is reserved to reject any or all bids or to accept any part of a bid or the one deemed best for the Town.
