Renovation of a medical facility in Ottawa, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a medical facility.

Installation Summary: Replacement of three Amsco Century sterilizers with three Amsco Evolutions, there are differences with footprint and service clearances, so wall modifications are required for two units. The new sterilizers also require a compressed air supply, this utility will need to be added. Renderings with notes have been included in this document, a formal STERIS drawing will be provided within the next week. Scope of Work, 1st Sterilizer, Left Side: One unit will need to be replaced at a time, so sterilization capacity can be maintained with two units. (QHC) The project should start with the replacement of the unit on the left-hand side, as viewed from the front of the sterilizer bank. Wall opening modifications are required, this includes a wider opening, infill is required, stainless steel may be the best option. (QHC) Erect hoarding as per CSA Standards and obtain Infection Control sign-off. (QHC) Disconnect and isolate utilities supplied to the unit, steam, cold water, drain extension, 208 volt, 3 phase, and 120 volt. (QHC/Contractor) Remove control boxes and drop the sterilizer to the casters, remove sterilizer. (STERIS 2-4 hours) The unit on the left side needs to move farther left, approximately 8" of block wall needs to be removed, ideally, 9.5" should be removed, but no wider, the cut should be finished. Flexibility is given in case joints align, the current wall openings are 38-1/4" wide, the ideal opening size is 47.5" but 38" is acceptable. (QHC/Contractor) Move new sterilizer into position, level and assemble the unit. (STERIS -approximately 4 hours) Reconnect utilities to new connection points, steam, cold water, 208, 3-phase, drain extension, 120 volt is no longer required. Run and connect new compressed air supply, detailed requirements are identified in the equipment drawing. (QHC/Contractor) Clean area and remove hoarding, loading equipment cannot be prepared with hoarding in place. (QHC/Contractor) Start-up and testing, assemble and adjust loading equipment. (STERIS -approximately 1 day). Operator training and qualification testing. (STERIS/QHC) 2nd Sterilizer, Middle Unit: Erect hoarding as per CSA Standards and obtain Infection Control sign-off. (QHC) Disconnect and isolate utilities supplied to the unit, steam, cold water, drain extension, 208 volt, 3 phase, and 120 volt. (QHC/Contractor) Remove control boxes and drop the sterilizer to the casters, remove sterilizer. (STERIS 2-4 hours) Wall modifications are not required for this sterilizer, the opening is current 38-%" wide. Move new sterilizer into position, level and assemble the unit. (STERIS-approximately 4 hours) Reconnect utilities to new connection points, steam, cold water, 208, 3-phase, drain extension, 120 volt is no longer required. Run and connect new compressed air supply, detail requirements are identified in the equipment drawing. (QHC/Contractor) Clean area and remove hoarding. (QHC/Contractor) Start-up and testing, assemble and adjust loading equipment. (STERIS -approximately 1 day). Operator training, if required, and qualification testing. (STERIS/QHC) 3rd Sterilizer, Right Side: Erect hoarding as per CSA Standards and obtain Infection Control sign-off. (QHC) Disconnect and isolate utilities supplied to the unit, steam, cold water, drain extension, 208 volt, 3 phase, and 120 volt. (QHC/Contractor) Remove control boxes and drop the sterilizer to the casters, remove sterilizer. (STERIS 2-4 hours) In order to improve service clearances, this unit should move approximately 8" to the right, the block can be removed expanding the opening width up to 9.5" wider. Infill is not required due to the increased width of the trim panels and control column, the ideal opening is 47.5" wide. Move new sterilizer into position, level and assemble the unit. (STERIS - approximately 4 hours) Reconnect utilities to new connection points, steam, cold water, 208, 3-phase, drain extension, 120 volt is no longer required. Run and connect new compressed air supply, detail requirements are identified in the equipment drawing. (QHC/Contractor) Clean area and remove hoarding. (QHC/Contractor) Start-up and testing, assemble and adjust loading equipment. (STERIS- approximately 1 day). Operator training, if required, and qualification testing. (STERIS/QHC) Suggested Site Improvements: The loading area in front of the sterilizers should be level and free of imperfections, this will allow the loading equipment to perform properly and minimize any concerns with staff safety. Currently, the epoxy flooring is chipped in multiple locations, this is impacting the performance of the current loading equipment and it will also impact the new. The flooring issues should be corrected as part of the sterilizer replacement project. Photos are attached.
