Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Hiawatha, Iowa. Completed plans call for site work for a sidewalk / parking lot; for paving for a sidewalk / parking lot; and water / sewer project.
This project includes replacement of sidewalk ramps with ADA compliant sidewalk ramps and associated work such as PCC pavement patching, sodding and valve box replacement at various locations within the City limits Each bidder shall accompany its bid with b id security as defined in Iowa Code Section 26.8, as security that the successful bidder will enter into a contract for the work bid upon and will furnish after the award of contract a corporate surety bond, in a form acceptable to the Jurisdiction, for the faithful performance of the contract, in an amount equal to 100% of the amount of the contract. The bidder's security shall be in the amount fixed in the Instruction to Bidders and shall be in the form of a cashier's check or a certified check drawn on an FDIC insured bank in Iowa or on an FDIC insured bank chartered under the laws of the United States; or a certified share draft drawn on a credit union in Iowa or chartered under the laws of the United States; or a bid bond on the form provided in the contract documents with corporate surety satisfactory to the Jurisdiction. The bid shall contain no condition except as provided in the specifications. Each successful bidder will be required to furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount equal to 100% of its contract price. Said bond shall be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City of Hiawatha, Iowa and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained and shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, and protect and save harmless the City of Hiawatha, Iowa from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contract and shall also guarantee the maintenance of the improvement caused by failures in materials and construction for a period of four years from and after acceptance of the contract. Contractor shall have the project substantially completed by Friday, August 29, 2025, and final completion by Friday, September 19, 2025. All paperwork shall be completed by Friday, October 24, 2025. For the purposes of this project, Substantial Completion shall be defined as all work on the project complete and in use by the City and adjacent property owners except for placement of sod if it is determined the air temperatures are too hot for placement. At no given time should a ramp closure last longer than 14 calendar days. The Owner of this project is the City of Hiawatha, 101 Emmons St., Hiawatha, IA 52233. The Owners' Representative on this project is City Engineer, Jon Fitch, (319) 393-1515 x528, jfitch@hiawatha-iowa.com. The Engineer for this project is Hall & Hall Engineers, Inc., 1860 Boyson Rd, Hiawatha, IA 52233. Pre-Bid Meeting Info: No prebid meeting will be held The Contract for this project includes a liquidated damages clause. Liquidated damages for delay, but not as a penalty, are specified as Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) for each calendar day that expires after the times specified for Substantial Completion until the work is complete. Liquidated damages for delay, but not as a penalty, are specified as Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) for each calendar day that expires after the calendar days specified for Final Completion. Liquidated damages will be calculated as additive if Substantial Completion is not achieved within the calendar days specified for Final Completion. The City of Hiawatha, Iowa does hereby reserve the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be in the best interest of the jurisdiction.
