Plans call to construct a building addition that will house an Animal and Zoonotic Disease Center laboratory. This biosafety level-3 lab addition on the campus of USDA's National Centers for Animal Health in Ames, Iowa, would comprise approximately 13,500 square feet. The project includes a crawl space of approximately 6,400 sf beneath the BSL-3 lab spaces, incorporating 2,200 sf of office space, and converting another building, which houses the current Mycobacteriology lab, into a storage facility. As of February 4, 2026, the project is currently under construction, with substantial completion date of November 30, 2027. Funding has been allocated.
