The Kenai Peninsula Borough hereby invites qualified firms to submit a firm price for acceptance by the Borough for Welding Shop Ventilation Engineering Services for Kenai Central High School & Soldotna High School. The project consists providing a re-design of the ventilation systems in the welding shops at Soldotna High School and Kenai Central High School's Vocational Technical Campus following the recommendations of the ventilation assessment report provided by Central Alaska Engineering Company. Question Deadline 04/15/2025 at 5:00 PM AKT Questions may be submitted through the online questions and answers section of this bid online, faxed to (907) 714-2373 or emailed to purchasing@kpb.us. The subject line of the email should read, "Questions: ITB25-057 Welding Shop Ventilation Engineering Services - Kenai Central High School & Soldotna High School." The re-design of the ventilation system at Soldotna High School's welding shop includes replacement of outdated equipment, installation of new ventilation components, and ensuring compliance with current standards. Project Details: 1. Exhaust Fan Replacement: Replace the 44-year-old exhaust fans with new units that meet the load requirements for both local and fixed hoods. 2. Moveable Ducted Cone Devices: Provide and install moveable ducted cone devices on WH-1 through WH-4, including WH-8. Devices similar to ducts on WH-4 through WH 7. 3. Welding Hood for Plasma Cutting Table: Provide and install a new welding hood over the Plasma cutting table. Ensure adequate ducting for 1,000 FPM. If inadequate, provide and install new ducting. 4. Ducting Evaluation for CTH-1: Evaluate ducting on CTH-1. If inadequate, provide and install appropriate ducting and exhaust. 5. Make-Up Air Unit: Provide and install a new electrically interlocked make-up air unit, sufficient in size. 6. Make-Up Air Fan: Provide and install an appropriately sized make-up air fan, electrically interlocked with the exhaust fan. 7. Duct Cleaning: Thoroughly clean existing ducting that remains before new equipment installation. 8. General Ventilation Requirements: Design, supply, and install a wall-mounted exhaust fan with a make-up air louver. Ensure both are electrically interlocked. 9. Electrical Code Compliance: Identify and develop a scope of work to bring the electrical systems up to NEC code standards. 10. Post-Construction Cleaning: Provide an in-depth cleaning of all surfaces above standard working height post-construction using a HEPA filtered vacuum. 11. System Balancing: Employ a balancing company to properly balance the system and achieve the anticipated design flow rates. Project Name: Kenai Central High School Vocational Technical Welding Shop Ventilation Re-design Scope of Work: The re-design of the ventilation system at Kenai Central High School Vocational Technical Campus includes replacement of outdated equipment, installation of new ventilation components, and ensuring compliance with current standards. Project Details: 1. Exhaust Fan Replacement: Replace the 54-year-old exhaust fan EF-1. New unit sufficient for local and fixed welding hoods. Re-route exhaust outlets to a safe location. 2. Slotted Hood Design Evaluation: Evaluate current slotted hood designs to achieve 1,500 FPM face velocity. Current air velocity in welding zone under required 100 FPM. 3. Welding Hood for Plasma Cutting Table: Install a new hood over the plasma cutting table. Increase size of exhaust ducts to achieve 1,000 FPM. 4. Cutting Table Hood (CTH-1) Evaluation: Evaluate CTH-1. May need to increase diameter of outlet riser duct. 5. Gas Welding Table Hood (GWH-1) Evaluation: Replace obtrusive aftermarket light with lower profile design. 6. Make-Up Air Unit Installation: Provide and install a new make-up air unit to accommodate exhaust fan capacity. Ensure electrical interlocking. 7. Duct Cleaning: Thoroughly clean existing ducting that remains before new equipment installation. 8. General Ventilation Requirements: Design, supply, and install a wall-mounted exhaust fan with a make-up air louver. Ensure both are electrically interlocked. 9. Electrical Code Compliance: Identify and develop a scope of work to bring electrical systems up to NEC code standards. 10. Removal of Abandoned Systems: Remove and dispose of abandoned electronic precipitator filter system and exhaust fan. 11. Post-Construction Cleaning: Provide an in-depth cleaning of all surfaces above standard working height post-construction using a HEPA filtered vacuum. 12. Exhaust Fan Capacity Increase: Increase capacity of current exhaust fan serving the laser cutting room. 13. Air-Handling Unit Repair/Replacement: Replace out-of-service air handler on the mezzanine for proper heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. 14. System Balancing: Employ a balancing company to properly balance the system and achieve anticipated design flow rates. 15. Truss Load: Provide post-construction truss loading, showing anticipated weight suspended from trusses. This summary outlines the comprehensive approach to improving the ventilation systems at both Soldotna High School and Kenai Central High School Vocational Technical Welding Shops. Detailed shop drawings, as-builts, PM schedules, and 40 hours of construction administration costs should be included in the final proposal. As part of this project, KPBM is seeking an estimated cost of the project. We will also require project specifications that detail the needs as outlined in the afore mentioned specifications and in the attached welding shop ventilation assessment
