Contract Award (Anticipated) June 4, 2025 The Town of Vail, Colorado is seeking proposals for professional services from qualified and experienced consulting engineering firms to provide the Town with design services for pedestrian improvements at the Main Vail interchange (I-70 Exit 176) by increasing the width of the existing sidewalk on the west side of Vail Road under I-70, installing a new sidewalk on the east side of the roundabouts and providing a cover protecting pedestrians from snow casting from I-70 snow removal operations. Work includes but not limited to survey, civil and structural engineering in connection with grading, drainage, structural retaining walls. The Town of Vail, Colorado is seeking proposals for professional services from qualified teams for Civil Engineering and related design/engineering services to complete the design of sidewalk improvements at the Main Vail interchange. Specific services will include, but are not limited to, survey, civil engineering, structural engineering for grading, structural retaining walls and drainage improvements meeting all Town of Vail, CDOT and AASHTO design standards. The consultant shall be familiar with CDOT's Special Use Permitting process. Project manager must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado. The project includes: o 8' wide sidewalk along the east side of the roundabouts at the Main Vail interchange to provide a pedestrian connection between the South Frontage Road and Spraddle Creek Road o 5' wide sidewalk connecting the N Frontage Road sidewalk to the Spraddle Creek Trailhead located approximately 350' from the north roundabout on Spraddle Creek Road o Widening the existing sidewalk on the west side of Vail Road under I-70 to 8' o Providing an aesthetically pleasing pedestrian cover, meeting Vail expectations, to protect pedestrians from I-70 snow cast during snow removal operations. Maintain 11' minimum vertical clearance o Retaining walls (maximum 6' in height) with stone veneer to match the existing landscape retaining walls at the interchange as necessary (similar to the West Vail interchange and Sandstone Underpass) o Drainage improvements as necessary due to the improvements o Installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at the newly created crosswalks o Irrigation and landscape restoration The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
