Site work and paving for a road / highway in Skagway, Alaska. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.

The Alaska Department of Transportation (DOT&PF), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is developing a project to rehabilitate the Skagway Highway from Milepost 1.75 to the Canadian border. Proposed work within the project corridor may include: o Pavement replacement o Drainage improvements o Guardrail replacement o Embankment stabilization o Minor roadway realignments The project team is currently working on a preliminary design and environmental analysis. A Categorical Exclusion will be completed for this project per FHWA's National Environmental Policy Act guidance and DOT&PF's Environmental Procedures Manual. The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by DOT&PF pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated April 13, 2023, and executed by Federal Highway Administration and DOT&PF. Government agencies sometimes need to acquire additional property rights for public projects. Often this is only a temporary easement for access or construction. The U.S. Constitution promises private citizens the right to just compensation for property rights required for public use. The Uniform Act (49 CFR Part 24) is used to assure equitable treatment to property owners and that just compensation is provided for any additional property rights. The Right of Way (ROW) section will reach out direct to any property owners whose property is necessary for the construction of the project. The ROW Acquisition Brochure explains the rights and benefits of property owners whose real property is to be acquired. It is the policy of the DOT&PF that no one shall be subject to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability, regardless of the funding source, including Federal Transit Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and State of Alaska funds.
