The District's Maintenance department seeks a contractor for gymnasium rubber floor removals at Stone Academy and Blue Ridge High School. These floors are made of rubber and do contain Mercury. This is an abatement project. We seek to have both of these done in the first part of summer so new flooring can be installed in time for school opening. The Gymnasium floors of Woodmont Middle School, Stone Academy, and Blue Ridge High School, which are slated for replacement, consist of rubberized (tartan) flooring over a concrete slab. Sample(s) collected from the rubberized flooring confirm that the flooring contains mercury. Due to the required sample size for toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP) analysis and increased risk of mercury exposure when the flooring is damaged, TCLP analysis to determine leachable lead content has been performed. The scope of work will include removal of all flooring down to the concrete slab and properly disposing of the flooring material. All work must be performed by a properly trained remediation contractor who specializes in removal and disposal of hazardous materials. Upon initiation of removal, TCLP samples have been collected and are determined to be classified as hazardous waste for disposal purposes.
