Description

Site work for a water / sewer project in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

Clayburn Creek is a tributary of the Fraser River that originates on Sumas Mountain and flows west through Clayburn Village, northwest onto Matsqui Prairie, and eventually into the Fraser River through the Matsqui Pump Station. The November 2021 Atmospheric River Event ("ARE") caused high creek flows which resulted in erosion and undercutting of Clayburn Creek's banks. The headwater tributaries of Clayburn Creek originate in a series of steep ravines on Sumas Mountain and the ARE triggered multiple landslides culminated in aggradation of sediments along Clayburn Creek. The objective of the Work is to restore the Work Site to its pre-ARE condition by removing sediment and restoring channel banks. The Work consists of sediment excavation, hauling and off-site disposal of sediment and site debris, bank stabilization using buried, planted riprap, restoration of riparian vegetation and fish habitat offsetting. The Work consists of nine (9) identified work zones over a combined distance of approximately 1.2 kilometers of the creek channel. Documents can be obtained from www.bcbid.gov.bc.ca
