The Lake Winnipesaukee Alliance is seeking proposals from qualified engineering firms to provide design services for stormwater management and erosion control measures at Melvin Wharf Road, Tuftonboro to reduce polluted stormwater runoff and nutrient loading to Lake Winnipesaukee. Site MoB 1-06A: Melvin Wharf Road, Tuftonboro, NH There is beach erosion from Melvin Wharf Road drainage, that flows over the beach and erodes the sand into the lake. The intent is to install a trench drain to collect runoff from the road terminus and roadside ditch with conveyance to a new best management practice, i.e. bioretention area. The bioretention area will have a raised outlet to retain and infiltrate stormwater while providing overflow to pipe for erosion resistant conveyance of larger storms. The project also involves replacing an existing old buried culvert for conveyance of larger storms not infiltrated in the bioretention area. Mitigation of this site is estimated to reduce sediment and nutrient loading to Melvin Bay by 154 lbs./yr. of total suspended solids and 0.3 lbs./yr. of total phosphorus.
