The City of Galax, Virginia is seeking architectural and engineering services in conjunction with a project to renovate the city-owned building at 113 East Grayson Street, Galax, Virginia, known as The Rex Theater. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The City of Galax desires to procure architectural and engineering (A/E) design services needed to prepare construction blueprints and procurement documents as we l as for oversight of the construction. The City's ultimate goal is to renovate the Rex Theater building to create a more functional event space, provide performers and audience with an appealing and memorable experience, configure some interior space to accommodate new uses, and implement handicap accessibility at a l building levels. This wi l be accomplished through a series of projects over the next five years. The proposal should include an explanation of how fees and scope wi l be adjusted as additional phases are added. This phase wi l include design and construction of: _ Balcony area improvements including flattening the entry and insta ling seating to add ADA seating and address safety issues created by missing seats; _ Reconfiguration of existing public restrooms to implement additional fixtures and incorporate handicap accessibility; _ Instalation of an elevator to connect the main theater level to the basement level below and the balcony areas above; _ Modifying stairways to enable emergency egress; _ If funding permits, upgrade the existing HVAC system to serve a l areas of the theater; _ Upgraded rigging, light and sound equipment; _ Prepare budget cost estimating for al aspects involved with this phase of the renovation project to include total construction costs, contingencies for unknown conditions at schematic planning stage, inflation consistent with projected future completion date, and associated professional oversight fees
