This project aims to prepare a Multimodal Mainstreet Corridor Plan along US Highway 50 and State Route 89, which are the main facilities for access and circulation throughout the city and the wider Lake Tahoe Basin/Stateline region. The City of South Lake Tahoe has applied for and received a Caltrans Sustainable Transportation grant to conduct this study. This planning effort will identify, analyze, and propose enhancements to these transportation corridors that will improve safety and access for walking and bicycling, facilitate modal shifts away from vehicles through a more efficient transit system, and provide solutions that enhance the quality of life for community members and regional visitors alike. The plan will have a broad scope that considers all road users, identifies priority areas for multimodal and sustainable transportation improvements, recommends specific projects and strategies to address the existing issues, and provides the foundation for future implementation grants. The project will involve a robust public engagement/outreach strategy through workshops, pop-up events, and surveys. It will also include coordination with Caltrans District 3, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), El Dorado County, Douglas County, TTD, and local business partners, such as Vail Resort and Chambers of Commerce, to foster collaboration with existing regional planning efforts.
