Proposals for contractors to perform Rubber Modified Chip Seal services It is the intent of the Road Commission of Kalamazoo County (RCKC) to contract for requirements of Rubber Modified Chip Seal (RMCS) Services as needed for one year, with the option to extend for up to three, one-year extensions by the mutual agreement of both parties. RCKC is seeking qualified contractors to perform Rubber Modified Chip Seal services. The Contractor shall comply with the intent of the General Requirements and Covenants, of the 2020 Michigan Department of Transportation's "Standard Specifications for Construction" where applicable. This work shall consist of one or more applications of bituminous material applied to the prepared surface with each application being covered with either course of fine aggregate before the next application of bituminous material. The work shall be done in accordance with this specification or in accordance with the applicable tables, drawings, or plans. The contractor may be required to pre-qualify with RCKC the Asphalt Rubber manufacturing and application process. The data required to be submitted for qualification approval will include a blend design profile (described below), Asphalt Rubber Binder performance data (described below) from a certified lab, experience records, and an equipment list indicating ability to comply with this specification. The bituminous material shall be applied at the rate specified immediately followed by the self-propelled chip spreader covering the bituminous material with aggregate. In no instance shall the chip spreader be more than 400 ft. behind the asphalt distributor. The aggregate shall be oriented and compacted on its flattest side into the bituminous material by self-propelled pneumatic rollers directly behind the chip spreader. At no time shall the aggregate cover material be left unrolled for more than 10 minutes. The second application shall be applied as soon as it can reasonably be expected or as directed by the Project Superintendent.
