Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's) modulate the current to motors to allow them to run at different speeds, this allows pumps to run at the most efficient energy curve for the motor and plant operations. Replacement of influent pump VFD's would be to swap existing VFD's with new more efficient and capable versions then existing models. Project would not replace any of the pumps or motors at the building VFD's have a 7 to 15 year life expectancy. The influent pump station drives were installed in 2000, and one required replacement in 2010.The current drives are becoming obsolete, and parts are becoming harder to find. Mankato preforms annual inspections on these drives, and intend to replace these drives prior to failure due to the criticality of the drives. The Influent pump station houses 6 main pumps, thus at 1 VFD a year the project would take 6 years to complete. Current regional growth trends indicate capacity of pump station is adequate for next 20 years (as long as inflow and infiltration is programmed to be reduced), thus the new VFD's would fully depreciate prior to replacement. As of May 21, 2025, The project is include in the City's 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
