The contractor will be responsible for determining the actual amount of brush mat, which will not be considered for extra payment and should be included in the price bid for Roadway Excavation. _ When constructing a brush mat, the Contractor should use non-merchantable stems, laying them in alternating top-butt fashion. If the sub-grade material is coarse, it will be. necessary to surface this section. _ Install cross drain culverts where necessary Payment will be based on the Contract price per unit. DESCRIPTION Area to be stripped will include road excavation area and ditches. Stripping consists of the removal and disposal of all stumps, large roots, surface boulders, and any other vegetation or debris. The following guidelines must be followed: _ Stripped material must not exceed one meter in height and should be topped with one meter of granular fill. _ Stripped material not used in the construction of the roadbed must be placed at the edge of the right-of-way in a tidy fashion, allowing machine access to adjacent forest land. These piles of stripped material must not exceed one meter in heights. _ Steep embankments greater than one meter do not require stripping. These embankments should be filled in with vegetation debris, compacted, and covered with one meter of granular fill. _ After stripping is complete, the contractor must lay out the road centerline before any further excavation occurs. This will ensure proper road alignment. PAYMENT Stripping is included in the roadway excavation section of the Contract and is not considered an additional cost
