Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor, Michigan, is extending an invitation to submit proposals for professional architectural/engineering/design and construction administration services for a new residence hall. Beckwith Hall opened in 2014, houses 194 occupants, and has a waiting list for students. Lake Michigan College intends to develop a new residence hall on the Benton Harbor campus, providing 200 beds. The project is part of an initiative to offer students affordable campus housing that balances comfort, community, and cost-effective construction and maintainability. It should be located near Beckwith Hall and integrate cohesively with the rest of the campus. The new residence hall should primarily consist of semi-suite configurations with up to four students per suite and one shared bathroom per four students. One professional two-bedroom staff apartment with a separate exterior entry is desired. Common spaces should include communal kitchens, lounges, and laundry facilities. A reception area with waiting space and mail/package receiving area on the ground floor should be included. Estimated cost for this project is $22,000,000.
