PHANTOM RANCH PERC AREA CYCLIC REPAIRS The Phantom Ranch Percolation/Evaporation Area, designed to infiltrate effluent discharge from the Phantom Ranch Wastewater Treatment Plant (PR WWTP) quickly into the native soil, is not infiltrating properly and the effluent is ponding in the infiltration area. To stop the ponding, increase the infiltration rate, and prevent effluent leakage through the sidewalls, this project proposes to: 1) Work to be done on one percolation area cell at a time. This will allow the PR WWTP to continue to operate. 2) Remove bird netting from current cell being worked on. 3) Remove one section of sidewall planks to allow small excavator access. 4) Excavate the interior sidewall perimeter of percolation area cell and install HDPE liner (see graphic slide #4, #5, & #7) and backfill. 5) Remove the top 2 inches of native soil from the cell being worked on. The removed native soil will be placed against the interior of the sidewall perimeter at 1:1 slope (see graphic slide #5). Install 6" metal landscape edging to retain slope of native soil placed at perimeter. 6) Place 3 inches of #57 gravel over surface of the percolation area using the previously installed landscape edging to define the limit of the gravel. Bed the effluent distribution piping in the 3 inches of gravel (see graphic slide #4 & #6). 7) Cover the 3 inches of gravel with weed barrier cloth (see graphic slide #8). 8) Place another 1 inch of gravel over weed barrier cloth. This will hold the weed cloth in place and prevent solar degradation. 9) Reinstall sidewall planks and bird netting. Bird netting may be damaged when removing. If so, replace in-kind. Repeat process on adjacent percolation area cell. *The value for this project is based on a financial range.
