Renovation of a water / sewer project in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Design plans call for the renovation of a water / sewer project.
Waterworks Program - Existing Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Backyard Project. The program is a collection of large capital projects that will be delivered over the net decade. The overall objective is to increase the City's treatment capacity by the combination of completing upgrades to the existing WTP and building a new WTP with staged capacity increases based on the City's growth. Scope of work for the Backyard Project includes refurbishment or replacement of the backup raw water pumping facility, a filter backwash equalization storage tank, filter backwash piping modifications, and other minor associated upgrades. The new WTP will be built near the current Raw Water Intake (RWI) facility on the east of the South Saskatchewan River. The WTP will have an initial capacity of 150 to 200 MLD. TIMELINE: Request for Proposals from engineering consultants has been awarded. Request for Qualifications from construction management services has closed; a contractor is expected to be engaged winter 2025. Construction is planned for mid-2026 and is to be completed in early/mid-2028. A designer for the new WTP will be engaged in mid-2026 (through a separate RFP process). *Estimated cost for the Backyard project is $30 million. *Estimated cost for the new WTP is $410 million.
