Renovation of an educational facility in Montreal, Quebec. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
Reference number: 20085641 Electronic tender submission accepted: No L0311 - Concrete Formwork for Pav Ael McGill University's project aims to create a research center focusing on sustainable development and public policy on the site of the Royal Victoria Hospital. The project is known as the New Vic. The New Vic calls for the partial deconstruction of existing pavilions on the Royal Victoria Hospital site, including the northern expansion of Pavilion A, the western expansion of Pavilion L, and the complete deconstruction of Pavilions M, S and T. The project also includes the restoration and reuse of the original heritage buildings constructed in 1893 and designated Pavilions A, E and L. the construction of a new wing on the site of the deconstructed pavilions and an underground assembly area to the former hospital designated as Pavilion P. See Appendix A - (Pavilion Identification) for nomenclature and arrangement of existing pavilions on the site. The project's new wing, to be built behind heritage buildings A, E and L, in place of pavilions S, M, T and the rear portion of pavilion A, follows a similar strategy, proposing an ensemble whose volumetry is higher to the west, behind building L, and cascades down towards building E to the east, creating an ensemble whose template follows the mountain's topography. This approach highlights the original buildings, with their roof ridges punctuated by turrets and chimneys, and corrects a major divide created on the site when the M and S buildings separated the site physically and visually into two distinct ensembles, that of the original buildings and that of the new pavilions. As a result, the original north façade of Building A, currently hidden from view, will once again be exposed, and the courtyard formed by its extension wings will be revealed and enhanced by an atrium naturally lit by skylights on the roof of the new pavilion. To the east, the west facade of Building E, stripped of its additions over the course of decades, will be revealed once again, reinforcing the linear path linking the south entrance on Avenue des Pins, to the upper level and the University Street entrance. To the west, deconstruction of the Pavilion L extension will restore the original façade, making it visible again. See Appendix B - (Project Modifications) to visualize the redevelopment of the site. The New Vic Project has a gross surface area of 49,185 m2 , including 13,977 m2 in the restored heritage pavilions A, E and L. These gross surface areas are distributed as follows: - Pavillon A: 4765 m2 - Pavillon E: 6696 m2 - Pavillon L: 2516 m2 The Project's standardized net surface area is 22,800 m2 . The total budget approved by the Government is set at $870 million. Delivery is scheduled for late 2028.
