Liberty ES is a multi- story building, with nearly 43,000 square feet, originally constructed in 1927 with additions in 1950, 1967 and 1982. Other than a minor renovation in 1982, there have been no other significant renovations of this school, and the facility condition is rated critical. A feasibility study to define the scope of work was completed in April 2019, and the Board of Education voted to replace the existing school with a modern facility to meet the current educational specifications and curricular requirements. The State IAC staff reviewed the project and preliminary estimates indicated they will participate in 421-seats of the replacement of Liberty ES. A 745-seat elementary school is approved by the Board of Education in the ten-year plan. FCPS could justify the need for additional seats, if conditions changed, such as if the Board of Education were to close adjacent New Midway/Woodsboro ES buildings and consolidate the students into a larger Liberty Elementary School. The project is included in the County's 2026-2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
