Project Description: The SR4BA intends to retain a qualified and committed professional engineering firm/team to provide services required for the preparation and completion of PS&E for the Vasco Road - Phase 2 Project. The selected consultant will work closely with SR4BA, as well as Contra Costa County. The PS&E for this project is funded with regional and local funds. It will be necessary for this project to acquire property rights. The project environmental documents have been completed but will need to be reviewed to ensure they are still adequate. The consultant will be required to produce a bid ready contract, specifications, and plans. Bridge Expansion To accommodate the road expansion, the existing 113-foot single-span bridge will be widened by approximately 24 feet. In preparation for bridge modifications, one non-native Peruvian pepper tree (Schinus molle) will be removed from the riparian area (Exhibit B ). The existing wingwalls will be demolished, and approximately 502 cubic yards of material will be excavated. Rock slope protection (RSP) at the bridge abutments will be temporarily removed and stockpiled until replacement. The bridge superstructure will be widened using precast girders and a cast-inplace deck. A methacrylate resin may be manually applied to the new superstructure as a sealant and protectant, employing containment measures and best management practices to prevent discharge into the creek. The substructure will be modified using pre-cast, reinforced concrete seat abutments supported on driven piles. All foundation work will occur outside the wetted channel and above the ordinary high water mark. Two mechanically stabilized embankment (MSE) retaining walls, each between 135 and 190 feet in length, will be constructed perpendicular to the new abutments. The walls will be made of pre-cast concrete panels that will be backfilled with approximately 656 cubic yards of geogrid-reinforced native soil . Two (2) 6-inch polyvinyl chloride (PVC) cleanout pipes and one ( 1 ) 6-inch PVC outlet pipe will be installed at the base of each wall for drainage, and approximately 2 cubic yards of RSP will be installed at pipe outlets for scour protection.
