Due to sediment-laden flow from the tunnel, the stainless-steel pier nose guard has been destroyed, and the concrete pier has eroded significantly, exposing and undermining the rebar cage along approximately 65% of the pier's perimeter over a height of 10-15 feet. The bridge was red-tagged in 2022, prohibiting vehicle and foot traffic due to the risk of collapse, which increases annually without repairs. The estimated construction cost ranges from $3.7 million to $4.3 million, driven by in-water work, project complexity, and site remoteness.
