Site work for a water / sewer project in Essex, Iowa. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
The general nature of the public improvement is: Group A: Construction of a new 70,000 gallon storage tank and demolition of existing water tower. Low Bidder: Gerard tank & Steel Inc. $1,650,000 - AWARDED Group B: the installation of approximately 4,200 LF of trenched and bored 6" water main, and installation steel casing under Railroad and Highway ROW. Low Bidder: McCarthy Trenching, LLC $841,665 - AWARDED The work shall commence on the day indicated in the Notice to Proceed and shall be substantially complete within 455 calendar days and completed and ready for final payment within 485 calendar days from the date of the Notice to Proceed. Should the Contractor fail to complete the work in this timeframe, liquidated damages of $700 per calendar day for substantial completion and $350 per calendar day for final completion will be assessed for work not completed within the designated contract terms. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Iowa Code Chapter 26, Section 26.8, and as specified by the City of Essex, in the amount of 5% of the bid, as fixed in the Instructions to Bidders. The successful bidder will be required to furnish bonds in an amount equal to one-hundred percent (100 percent) of the contract price, said bonds to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City Council and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and terms and conditions therein contained and shall guarantee the prompt payment for all materials and labor and protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of Contractor. The City of Essex reserves the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities and irregularities in the form of the bid, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be in the best interest of the City. QA date - 26 August 2025 Bidder shall submit all questions about the meaning or intent of the Bidding Documents to Engineer in writing. Questions received less than seven days prior to the date for opening of Bids may not be answered.
