The contractor shall provide all labor, tools, materials, equipment, and supervision necessary to replace the roof of the Hazardous Operations Building (HAZOPS) at the Eastern Regional Research Center. The building, constructed in 1950, is a single-story structure with a footprint of approximately 1,690 square feet. It features a cast-in-place concrete structural frame with clay masonry infill and is divided into three primary bays corresponding to Roof Areas A, B, and C. Roof Areas A and C are approximately 16 feet above the first-floor elevation, while Roof Area B is approximately 22 feet above. Access between roof areas is provided by steel ladders located at the north and south walls of Roof Area B. The roof replacement must be completed in accordance with the design analysis, design drawings, and specifications. The work covered by this section includes the handling and control of asbestos containing materials and describes some of the resultant procedures and equipment required to protect workers, the environment and occupants of the building or area, or both, from contact with airborne asbestos fibers. The work also includes the disposal of any asbestos containing materials generated by the work. More specific operational procedures must be outlined in the Asbestos Hazard Abatement Plan called for elsewhere in this specification. The asbestos work includes the demolition and removal of approximately 500 sf for ACM roofing materials located at the HAZ-OPS building. Provide techniques as outlined in this specification. The work area will be evacuated during the asbestos abatement work. A competent person must supervise asbestos removal work as specified herein.
