**As of October 27, 2025, the project was awarded to R P SAXON INC. but the awarded amount is not available.** The Town of Nantucket, through its Natural Resources Department, invites qualified responders to submit quotes for excavation services for the seasonal pond openings at Hummock Pond and Sesachacha Pond on Nantucket Island. Bidding procedures shall be in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 30 39M inclusive and as amended to date. Nantucket Island is home to several important ponds. Most notable for size and historical management are Hummock and Sesachacha Ponds. Both ponds provide a number of recreational uses and host many anadromous/diadromous estuarine species that contribute to the biodiversity of each body of water. A variety of anthropogenic and environmental pressures within both ponds' watershed continue to contribute to eutrophication, HAB's, and bacterial loads that impact the overall health and status of each pond. Both Hummock Pond and Sesachacha Pond are greater than ten (10) acres in size. They are maintained as part of an estuarine system by a Spring and Fall breaching of the barrier beach. The barrier beach separates the brackish pond from the marine waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The scheduled breachings are mechanically opened during designated tide conditions and with appropriate weather conditions. Each Pond is breached to lower its nitrogen levels and raise its salinity through the exchange of brackish pond waters with the high-quality offshore waters. This successful bidder shall perform services as necessary from October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026. This is intended to be a one (1) year contract.
