Renovation of an educational facility in San Diego, California. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.

The EMF currently is protected with Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) system that contains Forever chemicals, perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The scope of this project will be the safe-off, abatement, and demolition of the existing system and building a compliant replacement sprinkler system that meets the performance criteria outlined by the Fire Protection Engineer's report. Estimated Construction Duration: 90 days The University seeks Contractors with demonstrated experience in fire protection projects within facilities with specialty occupancies, sensitive laboratory environments, projects requiring extensive abatement, and mission critical facilities. Specific experience requirements include; installation of fire life safety protection systems to fully occupied and operating buildings; project requiring work on foam fire suppression systems; phased construction requiring temporary fire protection or monitoring while systems are offline; and hazardous material abatement requiring careful planning and execution of demolition scope. Projects should have possessed the following construction challenges; projects requiring proactive and innovative solutions due to noise, dust, and pedestrian traffic while building is occupied and research is ongoing; renovations/expansions requiring proactive and innovative solutions due to unknown and/or unforeseen field conditions; project complexity requiring complex phasing plan development and execution, critical paths scheduling and tracking of multiple functions and phases to complete on time; working within spaces with sensitive research activities; and hazardous material abatement, storage and processing. In addition, the University is committed to promoting and increasing participation of small business enterprises (SBEs) and disabled veteran business enterprises (DVBEs) relating to all goods and services covered under the awarded agreement, subject to any and all applicable obligations under state and federal law, and University policies. The awarded contractor shall make best efforts to provide qualified SBEs and DVBEs with the maximum opportunity to participate. Potential bidders will be required to submit their small business outreach plan to the University as part of the prequalification process. The Contractor shall have demonstrated an average annual business revenue of at least $3,000,000 over the last five (5) consecutive years. The Contractor must have demonstrated experience on their best three (3) comparable projects with the Contractor providing services as Contractor within the last ten (10) years.
