The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Room 10 at the Mitchell Career and Technical Education Academy. The regular meeting is being held on Tuesday due to Native American Day falling on Monday, Oct. 13.According to the agenda notes for the meeting, Mitchell Tech, in conjunction with the South Dakota Office of State Engineer, received bids recently for a remodel of the amphitheater in the Muth Technology Center. Seven bids were received for the project. $1,245,049 – Great Place Construction, Sioux Falls $1,399,247 – Schmitz Construction, Mitchell $1,400,761 – Puetz Design and Build, Mitchell $1,423,700 – Beck and Hofer Construction, Sioux Falls $1,434,000 – APX Construction Group, Sioux Falls $1,584,000 – Mueller Lumber Company, Mitchell $1,630,220 – Gil Haugan Construction, Sioux Falls The state engineer’s office reviewed the bids for compliance, and Mitchell Tech officials are expected to recommend accepting the low bid from Great Place Construction in Sioux Falls in the amount of $1,245,049.Turbine certificate sale The agenda item is one of several on the agenda for Tuesday relating to Mitchell Technical College. Among other business related to the two-year technical college, the board is also expected to consider approving a resolution to redeem MItchell School District limited tax obligation taxable certificates series 2010A. The board approved selling a school-owned wind turbine, which was purchased using QECB limited tax general obligation certificates. The certificates are callable now even though they do not fully mature until 2029. Officials with Mitchell Tech are expected to recommend calling the bonds and retiring the debt now to allow for a clear transference of title for the turbine. The debt will be retired using an existing fund specifically set aside for the process. The new classified hires of Christina Crawford, general food service worker, $17.40 per hour, 5.5 hours daily, effective Sept. 12; Debra Ellis, paraeducator at Mitchell Middle School, $19.20 per hour, 7.25 hours daily, effective Oct. 1; Kurt Kummer, maintenance worker, $21 per hour, 5.5 hours daily, effective Sept. 19; Guy Schulte, piano accompanist at Mitchell Middle School, $16 per hour, 3 hours daily, effective Sept. 22 and Khrystina Rogers, paraeducator at Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary, $19.20 per hour, 7 hours daily, effective Oct. 14. The resignation of Amber Hiles, Mitchell Middle School oral interpretation coach, effective 2025-26 school year pending suitable replacement. The new Mitchell Technical College hire of Kelli Sullivan, custodian, $22 per hour, 8 hours daily, effective Oct. 6. Other business Also at the meeting, the board is expected to: Consider approval of the sale of student-built house #110 to Alex Murtha and Tara Hill for $470,693. Consider approval to accept a bid for the purchase of a tractor and loader for Mitchell Technical College for $95,000. Consider approval of the purchase of a Powerline Program bucket truck and digger derrick truck for Mitchell Technical College, with Mitchell Tech recommending bids of $75,100 and $67,810, respectively. Consider the declaration of surplus items, including two Dextor industrial washers and three Huebsch Originators commercial natural gas dryers. Recognize the art department for Blue Ribbon winners. Hear board member reports. Hear the superintendent report. Hear public commentary. The meeting is open to the public. Requests for interpretations shall be made not less than ten (10) days prior to the opening of bids. The undersigned, being familiar with the local conditions affecting the work, and with the Contract Documents, including the Invitation to Bid, Instructions to Bidders, Bid Form, Explanation of Alternates, Modification to Bid Form, Bid Bond Form, Performance and Payment Bond, Acknowledgment of Surety, Sample Certification of Surety, Non-Resident Bidder Affidavit, Form of Agreement for Construction, General Conditions, Special Conditions, Technical Specifications, Plans and Addenda which govern the purchase of material and labor and the awarding of contracts hereby proposes to do all the work and provide all the material and equipment for the project. Bidder further agrees the Plans and Specifications are the sole property of the State; Each bid in excess of $100,000.00 must either pre-mail a certified check, cashier's check, or draft in the amount of 5% of the base bid and all add alternates and drawn on a State or National Bank to the Office of the State Engineer, Joe Foss Building, 523 East Capitol Ave,Pierre, SD 57501-3182, or upload a copy of their 10% bid bond to their electronic bid issued by a surety authorized to do business in the State of South Dakota and made payable to the Board of Technical Education of the State of South Dakota. The Board of Technical Education reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any irregularities therein.
