Online Q&A Yes Q&A Deadline 09/08/2025 5:00 PM (PDT) The Indian Wells Community Development Department (CDD) is pleased to announce the release of this Request for Qualifications (RFQ), which seeks Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) from artist-led teams to design an artistically inspired durable shade structure for the City's only public park located at the northwest corner of Fairway Drive and Eldorado Drive (the Project). The structure must deliver meaningful shade and year-round comfort while serving as a signature work of public art that honors Indian Wells' identity and desert setting. This commission is for public art and is not a generic architectural canopy. The City partners with the Desert Recreation District (DRD) for ongoing park operations and maintenance. The final design will be coordinated with DRD to ensure safety, durability, and practicality throughout the lifecycle. Funding for complete design drawings, fabrication, and installation of the shade structure is anticipated from the City's Art in Public Places Program. The purpose of this RFQ is to describe the opportunity and solicit qualifications from artists who will bring an artistic vision and approach to the shade structure, creating an initial site-specific concept representative of the City's quality of life. After the City reviews SOQs, it may elect to shortlist artists for interviews. The City reserves the right to select a successful artist without conducting any interviews. Following the selection, the City will negotiate a design-build professional services agreement with the top-ranked artist-led team.
