Opened in 2010, the Mountain View Library demand and usage has far exceeded the original capacity of the building. The original floor plan does not adequately serve today's needs: increased computer access, collaborative work areas, dedicated teen area, individual study rooms, and safety upgrades through increased visibility and layout improvements. The project will include: -Space planner, architectural, and engineering design. -Expanding space to maximize usage and functionality. -Landscape redesign to increase safety with more visibility. -Providing repairs and maintenance to the exterior. The Mountain View Library current exterior is a barrier to library service. The exterior is dated, and sidewalks are buckled, cracked, and uneven presenting a safety risk for library users as well as library staff. Building design and neglected landscaping also present safety concerns. The curved amphitheater wall and landscaping lack clear sight lines and creates spaces that are not visible from the street. Dated and dilapidated entry signage discourage the public from entering the library. As of Aug 29, 2025, this project is included in the City's 2025-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
