Liberty Way Guiderail LOCATION OF THE WORK All work under this Contract will be performed at the site identified as Liberty Way, located within the Borough of Liberty, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The Borough is located in north-central Allegheny County along the bank of the Youghiogheny River approximately twelve miles north of the downtown area of the City of Pittsburgh. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT The work under this project includes the furnishing of all labor, materials, and equipment required for the performance of all rehabilitation as indicated in the Contract Documents. The work essentially includesthe following: A. The mobilization and demobilization as required. B. The performance of site preparation to the extent necessary to perform all activities specified for this project. C. The performance of all related and required site restoration. D. The performance of all other related and required work as detailed on the Contract Drawings and as further detailing in the Contract Documents. 1. Removal of Existing Guide Rail and Post. 2. Installation of Guide Rail and Posts including all appurtenances. 3. Installation shall meet latest PennDOT Publication 408 o Guide Rail Shall meet AASH to M180, Class A, type II Galvanized. o Terminal sections shall meet AASH to M180 class A, type II Galvanized. o Post shall be Steel 1beam AASH to M 270 grade 250 or ASTM A 769 A Galvanized. Installation shall include offset brackets. Nuts, bolts, washers galvanized complete in place. o The minimum installed height of strong-post W-beam guide rail is 31 inches. o Blockouts (spacers) shall be made of recycled plastic, or rubber-like composite material o Set posts plumb at the spacing shown. Minor adjustments in spacing may be allowed to clear objects or to fit between fixed ends. Use bolts that are long enough to extend at least 1/4 inch beyond the nuts. Draw bolts tight, except if required for expansion. o Before installation, apply acceptable galvanizing paint to repair portions of posts to be placed underground. After installation, apply two coats of the galvanizing paint to guide rail or related appurtenances, including threaded portions of fittings, fasteners, and the cut end of bolts, that have been abraded or cut, exposing the base metal. o Provide satisfactory protection at exposed, unfinished ends of guide rail. o Perform work only within those areas protected by temporary traffic control devices.
