The purpose of this project is to disconnect the steam from building 202 and provide boilers to take its place. EXISTING SYSTEM The existing system consists of a steam line from the Co-generation plant which splits into two lines once in the building mechanical room. One branch is utilized for the domestic hot water, the main line feeding two heat-exchangers for re-heating and the building heating system. On the heating side the steam line enters two shell and tube heat exchangers to transfer its heat to hot water for a result of 180 degrees Fahrenheit water temperature. Main circulating pumps then move the hot water to the air handling unit heating coils located in the penthouse and to the reheat units located in the ductwork. The building has an existing water treatment system which will remain in place. On the domestic hot water side, the steam line enters a semi-instantaneous indirect water heater. This unit converts steam to hot water to deliver 120 degrees Fahrenheit water. The water then proceeds to a mixing value to adjust temperature for water distribution throughout the building. There is an older standby unit ready for operation in case the main unit fails. The existing underground steam and condensate lines serving the building will be cut back, capped, and abandoned in place. Construction will occur in 3 different phases.
