Wiley Wilson has been engaged to provide electrical engineering design services for the replacement of three existing battery strings that support the critical Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) infrastructure at the North Carolina Department of Information Technology's Eastern Data Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. These battery strings form the stored-energy backbone of the facility's power continuity system, allowing the three 825kVA UPS modules to maintain conditioned, uninterrupted power to vital information-technology operations. Over time, the original valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries serving Strings A, B, and C have reached the end of their useful service life and now require full replacement. The purpose of this project is to remove and replace these aging batteries with new equipment that matches the electrical and physical characteristics of the newer battery units currently installed in String D, ensuring long-term reliability and uniformity across the UPS installation. As part of the replacement effort, each battery string will undergo post-installation performance testing to verify proper operation, confirm correct integration with the associated UPS, and ensure the system meets its intended capacity and discharge characteristics before being returned to service. The project includes design development, bidding phase support, and construction administration services, with a focus on maintaining continuous operation of the data center's critical loads throughout construction. Because the replacement batteries are identical in form, fit, and functional performance to the units already in service, the effort is limited entirely to electrical work. All existing battery racks, raceways, monitoring systems, and UPS infrastructure will remain in place, and no architectural, mechanical, plumbing, or structural modifications are needed. Field surveys, site visits, and review of the facility's existing documentation inform the basis for design and allow the project team to coordinate a safe and efficient phased approach to battery replacement. The State Reserves the Unqualified Right to Reject Any and All Proposals.
