Renovation of a library in Princeton, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for the renovation of a library.

As of December 09, 2025, this project has not yet been awarded. A timeline for the award has not yet been established. Princeton Public Library Weatherization Project Contractor Qualification BUILDING INFORMATION The library is a brick masonry building. The walls are a double brick cavity wall, approximately 16-23" thick in total. The interior is a plaster and lathe surface over 2" wood studs attached to the inner brick surface. This would be an approximate R-3.13 for this total wall assembly. Additional thermal improvements cannot be made without renovating the interior wall surface. Previous renovations were completed around 2000 and other insulation measure installed to certain basement areas 10 years later. The basement area that was not finished has 2x10 ceiling framing positioned 16" on center with some fiberglass insulation installed incorrectly or in poor condition. There are 2 separate attic spaces, both have been treated with approximately 12" of cellulose. No air sealing appears to have been completed. There are 22 recessed lights that were dammed around and left uncovered due to the light fixtures at the time, these lights have now been replaced with lighting that can be covered and sealed. There is an area in the front attic approximately 6' x 25' that was not insulated, perhaps due to a roofleak at the time which has since been repaired. This same attic has an exhaust vent pipe from a bathroom below that is disconnected. There is bat guano in both attics that should be eliminated prior to any weatherization work, ifthis cleanup results in some removal ofinsulation, this will need to be assessed to spec how much insulation is to be installed to replace it. The windows are single pane. An exterior storm window has been installed to all windows. The doors have weather-stripping that could be replaced with improved brush and q-lon weather seals to reduce air infiltration. Weatherization Measures Attic and basement air sealing: Seal approximately 1900 SF of attic and 1000 sf of basement chases, plumbing and wiring penetrations, access openings and other leakage points in the attic, basement and crawl space to reduce heat loss via thermal by-pass and air infiltration/exfiltration using one or two part closed cell foam. Exhaust vent: Reconnect the disconnected 4" bathroom exhaust vent next to the rear attic access hatch. Wrap this vent with R-8 minimum FSK insulation. Secure with staples and FSK tape. Attic access: Create a removeable, insulated and weather-stripped cover for the metal pull down hatch in the rear hall. The insulation will match the attic insulation R-value by using Thermax or equivalent. The weather-stripping will be a self-adhering foam compression seal. Install Q-lon, or equivalent, weather-stripping to the attic access door. This door will also receive R-6.5 Thermax or equivalent rigid insulation board. Recessed light covers: Furnish and install Thermax ,or equivalent, rigid insulation to create an insulated cover for the 22 recessed lights. The cover top shall have a minimum R-value of the surrounding attic insulation. Seams to be sealed using FSK tape. ttic insulation: Furnish and install 11", R-40 Cellulose insulation to 200 SF of un-insulated attic over he front second floor room that was missed from a previous installation Basement insulation: Remove and dispose of poorly installed existing fiberglass insulation. Furnish and install R-30, kraft faced insulation to approximately 1000 SF of un-insulated basement and crawl space areas. A 12' x 12' drywalled area will require cellulose. This area is to be filled to capacity Exterior door weather-stripping: Install Q-lon, or equivalent, weather-stripping to the jamb and replace existing door sweeps with commercial adjustable nylon brush or vinyl seal door sweeps nylon brush sweeps(i.e.-MD #68593 or equivalent) to the main entrance double doors and side single door unit. The double door to receive nylon brush non-surface mount astragals. Required for DCAMM contracts over $150,000, Highway Division contracts over $50,000.
