Reference Number 0000304914 Southport Aerospace Centre Inc. is a not-for-profit property management and development organization located near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Southport manages a 220-hectare site featuring aviation, commercial, residential, recreational, and institutional facilities. The site serves as a hub for innovation, training, and community development. Southport has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship through initiatives such as its LEED Silver-certified facilities, Climate Smart certification, and participation in various sustainability programs. In alignment with these goals, Southport is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to undertake a feasibility study for a district geothermal energy system that would serve multiple existing and future buildings on-site. The initial phase of this project will focus on three LEED Silver designed buildings that will serve as the foundation of a scalable, site-wide district energy system: 1 Peggy May Legacy Centre geothermal connection. approximately 13,000 ft², constructed and ready to accept 2 Southport Dining Hall - approximately 23,000 ft², planned for construction in 2026. 3 Barker Building Expansion approximately 88,600 ft², planned for construction in 2027, designed as a mirror image of the existing Barker Building and connected through a shared heating source to optimize energy efficiency and system integration. The intent is to develop a closed-loop district geothermal energy system that begins with these anchor buildings and can be expanded over time to include additional new facilities and retrofit existing buildings to integrate with the system. This phased approach aligns with Southport's long-term sustainability strategy, supporting energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and operational resilience across the campus.
