Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Hiawatha, Kansas. Completed plans call for site work for a one-story above grade road / highway; and for paving for a one-story above grade sidewalk / parking lot.

Sealed bids are invited for possible replacement of flatwork, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and streets. The work includes installation of flatwork, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and streets as specified. All utility locates are the responsibility of the contractor. The City will provide a location to store new materials and a site to dump debris, as well as material for adjusting water meters, valve boxes, and manholes to a new grade. All work must use a minimum 4,500-pound cement mix with fiber reinforcement and Class I durability or state approved aggregate for flatwork. Air must be added to the cement (6.5% plus/minus 1.5%), and a road ice melt inhibitor must be applied. All flatwork shall include flow channels at street intersections and driveway approaches with possible manhole corrections. Work will require 1/2" reinforced bar on 18" centers both directions for all flatwork, use of compacted fill sand for sidewalks, expansion joints between curb and sidewalk, prescribed bedding for curb and gutter, and saw cut joint connections with specified pinning. Control joints must be cut within 24 hours of each pour. A 4 to 5 slump is required. The City reserves the right to collect and test concrete cylinders at certified labs. A one-year warranty on compaction, materials, and workmanship is required. The awarded bidder must be licensed with the city, provide a copy of a performance bond, and comply with the 2003 International and Residential Building Codes. Proof of workers compensation insurance is required or a waiver for proprietorships. Bid prices must be firm for 90 days, and projects will proceed as budget permits. Walk-throughs will occur before work for exact footage agreement. Bids must be submitted in a sealed envelope clearly marked as CONCRETE BIDS. The City reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids, waive irregularities, and limit or add projects based on budget and contractor availability. Submission of a bid constitutes agreement to all conditions, instructions, descriptions, and specifications.
