Sealed bids will be received for forestry mowing at Funderburg Forest Preserve. Specifications can be obtained from the Forest Preserves Headquarters or the website. The bid opening will be public. A pre-bid meeting will be held at the project site. Bidders are instructed to obtain specifications from the listed locations or website and attend the pre-bid meeting. The District seeks a qualified firm using specific heavy duty forestry clearing equipment to mow all non-native seedling, sapling, and mature shrubs to ground level, and as necessary hand cut brush growing around mature trees to be saved within a degraded oak-hickory woodland in the Funderburg Forest Preserve located in Rockford, IL at 4551 S. Meridian Road, Rockford, IL 61102 (see attached County Locator Map). The objectives of this project are to remove non-native brush and small mesic trees in a degraded oak woodland, with an emphasis on bush honeysuckle, multiflora rose, and buckthorn, and to greatly reduce their ability to reinvade the area via seed or re-sprouting. The project has a base area of 47.3 acres, a 10.7 acre option, with options for additional acres that may be awarded up to the project's not-to-exceed amount. The Contractor may request that District staff mark actual project boundaries on the ground with paint and flagging tape. District staff may delineate certain sensitive and high-quality areas with yellow "Caution" tape. Machinery is not permitted within these areas under any circumstances. Contactors violating this restriction may face cancellation of the contract and revocation of payment owed if damage to these areas occurs. Stump herbicide treatment and stump grinding below grade are not required in this project. Timeframes: - Tree Cutting Period: 12/1/2025 - 3/15/2026 - Re-Sprout Herbicide Treatment Completion Date: First foliar treatment must be completed by 5/29/2026. Follow up treatments must be completed by 7/31/2026 so that the Performance Standard may be reviewed at the Project Deadline. - Project Deadline: 9/4/2026 Performance Standard: At least 95% of stumps and re-sprouts dead at Project Deadline.
