From the Skokie Valley Path terminus at Lake-Cook Road to the entrance to the Chicago Botanic Gardens in the city of Highland Park and the Village of Northbrook. Construction of a mile-long shared-use path connection crossing US41 and the Skokie River. The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is in the early stages of a Phase 1 feasibility study for a path connection between the Skokie Valley Path and the Chicago Botanical Gardens along Lake Cook Road. At just under a mile long, this complicated connection will involve the evaluation of how to cross US 41 and the Skokie River with an emphasis on increasing safety for the pedestrians and cyclists through the corridor. LCDOT is engaging multiple stakeholders along the route, including the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways, the Cook County Forest Preserve, the City of Highland Park and the Village of Northbrook. The project is included in the County's 2025-2030 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). As of October 31, 2025, project is in Phase 1- Planning. Construction is currently planned for 2028, but will depend on available funding, property acquisition, and project readiness. Phase II: Design Engineering expected 2025-2027. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
