Sealed proposals, in duplicate, from qualified general contractors will be received for the construction of a new storm shelter and classroom addition to Vincent Middle/High School. Bids must be accompanied by a cashier's check or bid bond payable to the Shelby County Board of Education in an amount not less than five percent of the proposal, but no more than $10,000. Performance and payment bonds and evidence of insurance as required in the bid documents will be required at the signing of the contract. Drawings and specifications may be viewed on the digital plan room at Alabama Graphics using the assigned password. All contractors must provide evidence that they are properly licensed for this classification of work, clearly indicating all classifications, bid limits, license number, and expiration date. Digital copies of drawings and specifications can be obtained from the architect upon application for bid, and contractors will be placed on the official bidders list. Hard copy sets may be purchased directly from Alabama Graphics. Only those on the official bidders list will receive addenda and other proposal information. Bids from general contractors not on the official bidders list may not be accepted or opened. Bids must be submitted on proposal forms furnished by the architect. All bidders bidding in amounts exceeding the state licensing board limit must be licensed under Alabama law and must display their current general contractor's license number on the sealed envelope containing their proposal. The owner reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and to waive technical errors if deemed in the owner's best interest.
