Site work and new construction of an industrial development in Merced, California. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a one-story above grade industrial development.
The specific project scope consists of the construction of a new metal-roofed pole barn structure, classified as a U occupancy or unoccupied building. The scope of work includes associated foundations and slab-on-grade construction, as well as site grading and the development of parking accommodations for two vehicles. Access improvements will include the extension of the existing fire access road by approximately 650 feet to meet emergency service requirements. The project will also include installation of electrical infrastructure to support future solar array connections, potential research equipment, and building lighting. A fire water supply and emergency system will be designed and constructed in compliance with UC Merced and City of Merced Fire Department standards. In addition, utility provisions will be incorporated to accommodate research equipment, sensors, and potential future AgTech field connections, ensuring flexibility for ongoing and future research activities. The site is located away from the main campus buildings and infrastructure by approximately 0.25 mile and is located near an irrigation canal. The project intent is to design the ESF as an "off-grid" facility in terms of energy, irrigation, internet coverage, and waste management. The ESF infrastructure must be designed with careful attention to future buildings and facilities. Please note that this project including appointment of Executive Architect is contingent upon project approval and funding. Firms will be required to have an active State of California's architect's license for a minimum of five years. The key attributes that the University is seeking are firms with experience with agriculture structures including but not limited to pole barns, greenhouses, agricultural processing facilities or similar projects and experience with public works who can respond in a timely manner and assign staff with technical expertise along with excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience with higher education is preferred. Firms must demonstrate their history in meeting project budgets and schedules, and their ability to provide effective and experienced support. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons, regardless of race, religion, sex, color, ethnicity, and national origin have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
