Renovation of a museum in San Diego, California. Completed plans call for the renovation of a museum.

Subject to conditions prescribed by the University of California, San Diego, sealed proposals for a progressive design-build contract are invited from prequalified proposers for the following work: 5718 THE DEPOT. UC San Diego recently purchased 1100 Kettner Blvd, the former Museum of Contemporary Art building in downtown San Diego. The property consists of the historical Jacobs building (~1915) and the modern Copley building (2006). The historical Jacobs building was originally constructed as part of the original Sante Fe Train Depot. The building is constructed with steel columns, long span trusses and unreinforced masonry. Tier 1 evaluation studies identified the Jacobs building to have a seismic performance level VI. Per UCOP requirements, seismic retrofits are required for occupancy to bring the building to a seismic rating of IV or better. Project will need to comply with the Secretary of Interiors standards for Historical Buildings. In addition to the historical features there are 5 pieces of artwork that will be maintained and to be considered during design and protected during construction. The following design builders have been prequalified to submit proposals on this project: Devcon Construction and HGW Architecture Flint Design Build and Mosher Drew Architects Level 10 Construction and Gensler Rudolph and Sletten and Smith Group Shawmut Design and Ennead. Price Proposal Form and other documents required to be submitted with the Price Proposal Form shall only be received as a single PDF uploaded via the Trimble Unity Construct (fka e-Builder) Bidding Module unless otherwise noted in the Request for Proposal documents. Invitation and link will be provided via email to prequalified design builders. Proposal Security in the amount of 10% of the Target Cost, excluding alternates, shall accompany each proposal. The surety issuing the Bid Bond shall be, on the proposal deadline, an admitted surety insurer (as defined in the California Code of Civil Procedure Section 995.120). All insurance policies required to be obtained by Design Builder shall be subject to approval by University for form and substance. All such policies shall be issued by a company rated by Best as A- or better with a financial classification of VIII or better, or have equivalent rating by Standard and Poor's or Moody's. The successful proposer will be required to have the following California contractor's license at the time of the proposal opening: B - General Building Contractor. Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University within the limits imposed by law or University policy. Each Proposer may be required to show evidence of its equal employment opportunity policy. The successful Proposer and its subcontractors will be required to follow the non discrimination requirements set forth in the proposal documents and to pay prevailing wage at the location of the work. In addition, the University is committed to promoting and increasing participation of small business enterprises (SBEs) and disabled veteran business enterprises (DVBEs) relating to all goods and services covered under the awarded agreement, subject to any and all applicable obligations under state and federal law, and University policies. The awarded proposer shall make best efforts to provide qualified SBEs and DVBEs with the maximum opportunity to participate. The work described in the contract is a public work subject to section 1771 of the California Labor Code. Contractors and subcontractors must use the DIR's upgraded electronic certified payroll reporting (eCPR) system to furnish certified payroll records (CPRs) to the Labor Commissioner. No contractor or subcontractor, designer, or engineer may be listed on a Bid for this project (submitted on or after March 1, 2015) unless registered with the Department of Industrial Relations pursuant to Labor Code section 1725.5 [with limited exceptions from this requirement for bid purposes only under Labor Code section 1771.1(a)]. This project is subject to compliance monitoring and enforcement by the Department of Industrial Relations. The successful Proposer shall pay all persons providing construction services and/or any labor on site, including any University location, no less than the UC Fair Wage ($15 per hour) and shall comply with all applicable federal, state and local working condition requirements. 01/05/2026, 4:00 pm Last day to Submit RFIs
