Demolition, site work and asbestos abatement for a mixed-use development in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Completed plans call for the demolition of a educational facility; for site work for a educational facility; and for asbestos abatement for a educational facility.
In general, the work consists of the demolition of the existing Cowley Hall and construction of a new facility connected to Phase 1 of the Prairie Springs Science Center at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. Phase 2 will include offices, classrooms, instructional labs, research labs, and several highly specialized spaces that are critical to the delivery of science instruction and learning at UW-La Crosse. The new facility will be 199,755 gross square feet, consisting of four levels above grade, one below grade level for instructional and research laboratories, and a fifth-floor mechanical penthouse. The construction system will primarily utilize steel frame and floor systems, with a rain screen masonry and architectural precast wall envelope and an aluminum curtain wall system. The roof construction will use a steel structure with an adhered EPDM roof system and integral drains. Interior construction will include metal stud gypsum clad partition walls, acoustical tile ceilings, terrazzo, and resilient flooring. Asbestos abatement and demolition work related to Cowley Hall will be completed by an Asbestos Abatement Contractor under a separate contract.
