Site work for a stadium in Toledo, Ohio. Completed plans call for site work for a stadium.

https://www.cleveland.com/news/2026/02/see-details-for-all-the-ohio-sports-stadiums-arenas-asking-for-state-for-money.html CLEVELAND, Ohio - Nearly $600 million in state help is being sought for $2.3 billion in maintenance and upgrades to big-league sports stadiums and arenas in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus. Five facilities in the three large cities account for the lion’s share of the requests filed for a piece of Ohio’s new sports facilities fund, state records released Thursday showed. In total, applications amounting to $688.8 million have been filed by 22 organizations across the state - ranging from facilities for big-league pro teams like the Guardians, Cavaliers, Bengals and Blue Jackets to smaller organizations for youth sports. Yet only $400 million has been set aside so far for this state fiscal year, which ends on June 30. Awards are capped at 25% of a project’s cost. Most of the work proposed is for maintenance and upgrades. But some of the applications are for new construction - such as a proposed $80 million soccer stadium on the edge of downtown Cleveland. This application process is separate from money for the Browns’ new indoor football stadium in Brook Park. Some $600 million for that project was written into state law. But it comes from the same pool of $1 billion earmarked for use for sports projects this fiscal year. All the money is to come from Ohio’s unclaimed funds account. Eventually, the pool may swell to $1.9 billion in later years. But using the unclaimed funds is subject to a legal challenge. A Franklin County magistrate is expected to rule soon on whether distributing money should remain on hold, pending the outcome of the case. Here is an overview of the applications filed by the Jan. 30 deadline. $2,341,78,996 - Paycor Stadium, Cincinnati, home of the NFL Bengals - Hamilton County is proposing a $936,715,980 project that would include upgrades to seating, gathering spaces and technology, plus infrastructure work, at the 26-year-old stadium on the riverfront. $136.3 million - TQL Stadium, Cincinnati, home of the MLS team FC Cincinnati - FC Cincinnati Holdings LLC is proposing $545.2 million of work to expand and modernize its soccer stadium. $100 million - Nationwide Arena, Columbus, home of the NHL Blue Jackets - Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority is proposing $400 million of work for the renovation and modernization of the 20,000-seat arena. $64,795,282 - Progressive Field, Cleveland, home of the MLB Guardians - Cleveland Guardians Baseball Company LLC is proposing $259,181,129 of work for an 11-year maintenance and upgrade period. $40,308,802 - Rocket Arena, Cleveland, home of the NBA Cavaliers - Cavaliers Operating Company LLC is proposing $161,235,207 for a nine-year capital improvement plan. $24,692,000 - New London Recreation Park, New London - New London is proposing $24,692,000 of upgrades to baseball and softball fields in a community park. But there appears to be an error in filling out the application, which stipulates only 25% could be sought. $20,903,342 - Toledo USL, Toledo - Summit Street Sports is proposing a $83,613,369, 7,500-seat soccer stadium for a minor-league USL team and other events. $19.9 million - South Gateway Stadium, Cleveland - Cleveland Soccer Group is proposing a $79.6 million, 10,000-seat soccer stadium just south of the Gateway sports district for minor-league men’s and women’s soccer, and potentially high school and college soccer games. $14.5 million - Atomic Speedway, Waverly - Atomic Speedway Foundation Inc. is proposing a $67.9 million renovation and expansion of the dirt-racing track also used for community events. $9,992,318 - Performance Impact Arena, Delaware - Impact60 Inc. is proposing a $39,969,274, three-sheet ice arena for minor-league hockey games, practices and tournaments. $8 million - Day Air Credit Union Ballpark, Dayton home of the minor league baseball Dragons - Dayton LLC is proposing $32,151,148 of updates to the 26-year-old ballpark for the Class A team. $5.5 million - Champion City Sports and Community Wellness Center, Springfield - Clark County Convention Facilities Authority is proposing a $22 million youth and amateur sports event center. $4,400,731 - Fifth Third Field, Toledo, home of the minor league baseball Mud Hens - Toledo Mud Hens Baseball Club proposes spending $17,602,924 to renovate and modernize its Class AAA baseball park. $1,815,970 - Credit Union Park, Akron, home of the minor league baseball RubberDucks - Akron Baseball LLC proposes spending $7,263,877 to modernize and make repairs to the Class AA ballpark. $1.270 million - Fortress Obetz - City of Obetz is proposing $5,080,000 of upgrades to a nine-year-old facility consisting of athletic fields, a track, locker rooms and meeting spaces. $750,000 - Kingdom Sports Complex, Sidney - Faith Baptist Church is proposing a $3 million youth basketball and volleyball facility for the Kingdom Christian Hybrid school. $737,129 - Huntington Park, Columbus, home of the minor league baseball Clippers - Columbus Clippers are proposing $2,948,517 of renovations and upgrades to the Class AAA stadium built in 2009. $562,000 - Eastwood Field, Niles home of the amateur/pro baseball Mahoning Valley Scrappers - HWS Baseball VI LLC is proposing $2,250,000 of renovations to the 6,000-seat stadium built in 1999. Once a Class A team, the team now is part of the amateur/pro MLB Draft League. $100,000 - Classic Auto Group Park, Eastlake home of the minor league Lake County Captains - Collide NEO is proposing $400,000 updates to the Class A ballpark build in 2002-03. $100,000 - Total Athletic Performance Institute - Total Athlete Performance is proposing a $100,000 athlete development center in Clark County. But there appears to be an error in filling out the application, which stipulates only 25% could be sought. $10,000 - Monkey Business Parkour, Maumee - Monkey Business Parkour is proposing $11,250 of upgrades to a child and adult gym. But there appears to be an error in filling out the application, which stipulates only 25% could be sought. $10,000 - Bandit Hideout, Clyde - Sandusky County Base Bandits, a nonprofit youth baseball and softball organization, proposes spending $50,000 for upgrades to its batting cage facilities. Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer reached out to the Ohio Budget Management office with questions about the criteria that will be used and the timetable for making selections. OBM’s spokesperson said he would have to wait to hear from the agency’s legal department before answering any questions. Jerry Cirino, the Ohio Senate finance chair from Lake County who helped shepherd the unclaimed funds plan through the Statehouse, said that if quality applications exceed the money available, the state may have to look at an “incremental funding” approach over time. “That’s what we’ll have to discuss with OBM,” said Cirino. “We want to treat the teams as equably as we can.” OBM will forward its decisions to the Ohio Controlling Board, which will have final say on releasing the money, said Cirino, one of seven members on that board. Though $400 million is being made available for the current applications, more will become available at a later time through twice-yearly transfers from the unclaimed funds account, Cirino said. ----------------------------- For Design-build services forU toledo Glass Bowl Stadium Repairs.
