Demolition, site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Grimes, Iowa. Completed plans call for the demolition of a road / highway; water / sewer project; and sidewalk / parking lot.

The SE 5th St and SE 6th St Reconstruction project includes removal and PCC paving of the existing pavement along SE 5th Street from SE Little Beaver Drive to Trail Ridge Road and SE 6th Street from SE Little Beaver Drive to Trail Ridge Road in the City of Grimes. The construction includes approximately 3,370 SY of 7" PCC Pavement, 3,832 SY of 6" Granular Subbase, 684 LF of storm sewer less than or equal to 15-in diameter, and 4 intakes. Other associated improvements include removal and replacement of existing driveways and sidewalk pavement, erosion control, surface restoration, and miscellaneous associated work necessary to complete the project. Preference will be given to products and provisions grown and coal produced within the State of Iowa. Resident bidders may receive preference as against nonresident bidders, based on the nonresident bidder's state or country of origin policies. Bidders must submit a fully completed and accurate Bidder Status Form with the Proposal or risk their proposal being deemed non-responsive and rejected. Each successful Bidder will be required to furnish a corporate Surety Bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its Contract price, guaranteeing performance, payment, and four (4) years maintenance after acceptance. Disadvantaged business enterprises will be afforded full and fair opportunity to submit bids and will not be discriminated against on the grounds of race, color, or national origin. Payments will be made on the basis of estimates prepared by the Contractor and approved by the Engineer, with 97% paid during construction and 3% retained until after acceptance and satisfaction of Iowa Code requirements. The City of Grimes will issue a sales tax exemption certificate for project materials. The Contractor shall substantially complete all work within seventy (70) working days, with full completion required within ten (10) working days of substantial completion. Liquidated damages of $1,000 per calendar day will be assessed for failing to achieve substantial completion, and $500 per calendar day for failing to achieve full completion. The City of Grimes reserves the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into such contract or contracts as it deems to be in the best interest of the City.
