Renovation of an educational facility in Sanger, California. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.

The Berkeley Clean Energy Campus ("BCEC" or the "Program") aims to modernize the campus energy infrastructure by replacing the aging cogeneration and steam system with a new hydronic heating and cooling system. This Project (or "workstream") will install approximately 42,000 linear feet of heating ("HHW") and cooling ("CHW") hydronics distribution piping in approximately 10,000 linear feet of hydronic piping trenching, connecting the Electrified Heating and Cooling Plant ("EHCP") to the Building Conversions ("BC") across the eastern portion of main campus. This Proposal applies only to the Distribution ("DIST") scope of work. The scope of work includes civil engineering (i.e. hydronic piping and electrical duct bank routing design, trench profiles, shoring design, and surface restoration), landscape architecture, structural engineering, waterproofing, SWPPP, trenching, utility relocation, hydronic piping installation, penetration and termination of hydronic piping within buildings to be converted, and a new duct bank connection between substation 6 ("SS6") to substation 8 ("SS8"). The Progressive Design Builder will be required to collaborate closely with the University contracted design team and construction manager, including attending meetings, reviewing drawings, and participating in BIM coordination, to ensure the development of a coordinated, functional, permittable, and budget-compliant design. Separate contractors and proposal processes will be established for the EHCP, Building Conversions, and any subsequent phases of work. The selected Design Builder will be responsible for coordinating with the EHCP and Building Conversion prime contractors, including but not limited to piping hand-off points, building shutdowns, logistics and safety coordination, construction scheduling, and installation sequencing. Minimizing campus disruptions to the greatest extent possible is a key requirement. The Program is currently in the Design Development ("DD") phase, and the 100% DD drawings, specifications, and design narrative will be released in the Request for Proposal. The Construction Document ("CD") phase will begin at the Notice to Proceed for the awarded Design Builder, with construction of the Distribution scope expected to start by the start of summer 2027. Proposal Security in the amount of 10% of the Lump Sum Base Proposal, excluding alternates, shall accompany each bid. The surety issuing the Bid Bond shall be, on the bid deadline, an admitted surety insurer (as defined in the California Code of Civil Procedure Section 995.120) Site walkthrough notes: Participants shall meet in the plaza adjacent to the Anthropology and Art Practice Building, Berkeley, CA 94720 and Bancroft Way. For further information, contact Josh Jacobson at (650) 732-1629 or Chris Quinto at cquinto@berkeley.edu.
