The project generally consists of the construction of approximately 4,000 square feet of Portland Cement Concrete sidewalk and trail at 3 different locations, two of which will finalize connection to existing lengths of sidewalk. The work includes removal and replacement of driveway and pavement for new sidewalk construction, ADA ramp and detectable warnings, excavation, subgrade preparation, subbase, testing, mobilization, traffic control, erosion control, surface restoration, miscellaneous work, and cleanup. Proposals and bids must be submitted on official bidding blanks provided by the City, sealed and identified. Bid security is required in the form of a certified or cashier's check, certified share draft, or bid bond in the amount of five percent (5%) of the bid. The successful bidder must furnish a bond equal to one hundred percent (100%) of the contract price from an approved surety, guaranteeing faithful contract performance, payment for all materials and labor, indemnification of the City, and warranty of work against faulty workmanship and materials for two years after acceptance. Contractors and subcontractors are required to obtain tax exemption certificates from the City for the project. Work must commence within ten days of the Notice to Proceed and be completed by the specified completion date, with liquidated damages for delays. Payment will be made by monthly estimates at ninety-seven percent (97%) of completed work, with final payment after completion and council acceptance. Bidders must submit a completed Bidder Status Form as required by the Iowa Department of Labor. The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to enter into contracts deemed in its best interest. Plans and specificationsshall be interpreted by Engineer.
