The City owns and operates numerous timber based pedestrian bridge structures which are at the end of their lifecycle. To simplify the replacement process, the City has developed a standard pedestrian bridge structure design that will used for all new short span pedestrian bridge structures. The standard bridge design consists solely of pre-cast concrete and steel elements. This replacement package includes replacing two multi-span timber structures with the new standard bridge. Details on the structures are as follows: Structure 31: This structure is located in the Michael O’Brien Wetland and carries a multi-use trail over an engineered channel within a storm pond. The existing bridge is a five span timber bridge with screw piles for pier support and a spread footing for abutment support. Refer to appended record drawings for details. This structure is to be removed and a new 16-meter-long standard bridge installed. Structure 32: This structure is located in the Michael O’Brien Wetland and carries a multi-use trail over an engineered channel within a storm pond. The existing bridge is a four span timber bridge with screw piles for pier support and a spread footing for abutment support. Refer to appended record drawings for details. This structure is to be removed and a new 12-meter-long standard bridge installed. Anticipated work items for the Project as are follows: Removal and disposal of existing bridge structures Structural excavation and backfill Supply and installation of new bridge structures: Screw piles Pre-cast concrete abutment system Weathering steel girder system Non-composite pre-cast concrete decking Galvanized and powder-coated steel bridge rail system Supply and installation of rip rap Miscellaneous site work including earthworks, trail construction, asphalt paving, and landscaping.
