Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Mount Vernon, Indiana. Completed plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.

The project is located at Posey County Bridge No. 351, which carries Mulberry Street over CSX Railroad, at a point approximately 0.06 mile south of Grant Street in the City of Mount Vernon, Indiana. Under the preferred alternative, the proposed project would involve replacing Bridge No. 351 and construct a three-span continuous composite structure with an increased vertical clearance that meets the minimum bridges over railways requirement of 23-feet. The vertical alignment of Mulberry Street would also be raised by a maximum of 6 feet in order to improve the sight distance for vehicles approaching the bridge. The proposed typical section of the bridge would consist of two 10-foot-wide travel lanes (one northbound, one southbound) bordered by minimum 2-foot-wide paved shoulders, and 1-foot-4-inch-wide concrete railings. Additionally, a 6-foot-7-inch wide sidewalk would be constructed on the east side of the bridge between the shoulder and railing. The new bridge would have an out-to-out width of 34 feet 3 inches and a clear roadway width of approximately 24 feet 8 inches. It is anticipated that the proposed project would require the acquisition of greater than 0.50 acre of permanent right-of-way. The indiana department of transportation (indot), on behalf of the fhwa, has issued a "No adverse effect" finding for the project because the project will not diminish the integrity of the characteristics that qualify the historic properties within the ape for inclusion in the nrhp. In accordance with the national historic preservation act, the views of the public are being sought regarding the effect of the proposed project on the historic elements as per 36 cfr 800.2(d), 800.3(e) and 800.6(a)(4). In accordance with the "Americans with disabilities act", if you have a disability for which posey county needs to provide accessibility to the document(s) such as interpreters or readers, please contact bill collins, ph.
